Psychological thrillers, eh? It seems like most people just listed crappy horror flicks or suspense films. I would imagina that "psychological thriller" would mean it had both suspense (sitting on the edge of your seat) and some major plot point that is only explained in the end (keeping you in suspense while not confusing you too much so that you lose interest).
Both of these things are hard to even attempt in the same film, and even harder to achieve. Let me list a few that I think pulled it off.
I would say "The Sixth Sense" definitely falls under that category. The whole movie I was on the edge of my seat expecting something bad to happen, and then the end just knocked me over.
"The Silence of the Lambs". Great detective story with some truly thrilling moments.
"Jacob's Ladder" was pretty good, but I did get left wanting a bit more.
"12 Monkeys" kinda works - I love the movie - and there is an underlying mystery throughout.
Brian DePalma's "Dressed to Kill" is a near classic, but with so many of DePalma's overwrought "suspensful" moments throughout the movie, it has become slightly dated in its hokie-ness.
"Dead Again" with Branagh & Thompson I remember being good when it came out in the theater.
And many more, but these are a couple that come to mind. For more, go to imdb.com and do a search for keyword "psychological thrillers". Or just click the link below.
