I definitely were to both international locations and they are so different. So, it fairly count number by your self selection and what's your major purpose on your academic holiday, or perhaps if you've the different personal concerns. as an party, you gained't like the nice and cozy and humid climate of Malaysia like a number of my British associates. even if a similar associates love the shape of food in Malaysia and it really is unquestionably a lot more advantageous powerful fee-for-money than South Africa. on the different hand, I loved the safari and the vineyards in South Africa, something that Malaysia won't be able to grant. And SA's milder Mediterrenean variety climate is in simple terms beautiful in the course of the spring and autumn.

I would choose Malaysia over S. Africa, as I lived in SE Asia for several years and enjoy the climate, cultures, and scenery.
I suspect S. Africa to be dry, dull, and depressing, even tho I have never been there.
Where are you from, and what languages do you speak? Either country would be probably be easier for , say an American not fluent in any other language..
An advantage in traveling to and in Malaysia would be the close promixity to other countries and cultures, whereas S. Africa would be more difficult to travel to other areas.
You could travel easily to Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, perhaps even Phillipines and Taiwan! What a great four months that would be!
Regardless of where you choose, have a great time, educate yourself to as much as you can regarding the culture, climate, political situation (!!!), history and arts, foods, wildlife and fauna, etc...enjoy!
But please show respect toward the people and their cultures, religions, beliefs; represent your country the best way that you can.

I've only spent time in Malaysia and I have to say its nice. The food is what I remember most. There are so many differnet cultures there that bring so many differnet views. Its an outstanding place. At first it feels like a strict Muslim country but once youre there a couple of weeks you will see a whole other side of the country that is wonderful, fun, and shall we say not so up tight....

I lived in SA for 1.5 years in Durban and in Cape Town, I went often to Johannesburg for business. I have been back for almost 3 weeks.
Although SA is over whelmingly beautiful it is terribly dangerous. So dangerous I will not scare you by explaining it.
If you go to SA stay around the animal reserves and away from the cities, if you are in a city (if you are going you should see Cape Town) you HAVE to rent a car because it is not safe to walk there. There is nothing to see in down town Cape Town or in Johannesburg so don't go.
Knysner was awesome and safe and there are lots of places around there to drive and see in the area.
The other people have a lot of good things to say about Malaysia, maybe you should check it out.
Enjoy your holiday.

it's true that the best about Malaysia is variety of food. The weather here is a warm but i think you'll like it. We have rainforest here as well, if you enjoy nature then this is the place. And lastly the 'muslim' here don't kill people.

I live in Cape Town and I love it. Contrary to the many doom merchants, I have never been a victim of crime in more than 18 years.
I've never been to SE Asia so cannot compare, but SA is certainly not dry and boring as surmised by Pastafarian above (who's never been here by own admission!)
If you like an outdoor lifestyle with majestic scenery, not too hot and humid (as I believe the climate in SE Asia can be), take a look at Cape Town.
Here are some of our personal experiences to whet your appetite
