Some people that live next to me have 2 adults, 2 children, and a very large dog living in a (very small) one bedroom apartment. Are there any laws against this?

I really don't want anyone to get kicked out, but it's been about a year of hell for me. Neither parent works. The mother screams so loud at her children constantly and then lets them run wild. They blair their music/tv and tromp up and down the stairs (I live below them). Their dog is mean, and on top of it they never scoop the yard. And the problem is that the landlord is a close relative of hers. I did not realize this untill after I moved in. I've tried nicely discussing this with the neighbors, but to no avail.

Yes there are but first of all, they vary by state. Secondly, you have to have a lot more ppl than the amount you mentioned before you get into a health risk.
2 adults and 2 children are acceptable in a one bedroom home...

Any law like this depends on where you are so no blanket answer is possible. As to how it effect you personally. Under the common law a renter has a right to the quite enjoyment of the rented property. That means that if it is unlivable ( because of noise etc) and that the condition is in the controle of the landlord ( not disciplining the other tenents) then you can seek relief in court ( again, unless this has been modified by local law).
Relief can inlcude things like actual damages, moving to a new place and comeplling the landlord to pay the costs and the difference in rent, etc.
You need to do local research.

There may be an occupancy limit in place in your area. Call your department of buildings or housing or whatever it's called where you live and find out. Before you get someone thrown out of their home, consider whether they can afford to move or live somewhere else. If it's a one bedroom apartment and the children have the bedroom and the parents sleep on a sofa bed in the living room and they are caring properly for the children, then YES it is LEGAL.
Be careful how much trouble you cause. If you have a problem with your neighbors, try to work it out another way.

got to go with asking your local governing body..and yes there are pretty strict laws on people per space................got to ask tho as it has not been said above me......what is your main concern re this family ? do they let the kids run wild, does the dog bark all flipping day etc.....maybe JUST maybe this is all they can afford for the moment and they are on the starting point of rebuilding their lives so UNLESS they really are causing you some sort of hassle in some way other than you just being curious as to how many can live in the space then it might be best left alone...............

If they are all part of the same household, then there are no laws restricting the number of people. And I have encountered situations where many more were living in quarters just as small.
However, if they are renters or there are covenants involved, there may be clauses which restrict the occupancy.
But, regardless, I fail to see how this would affect you as a neighbour. Are they doing something which bothers you?

I would think not. Ten people in a small room from multiple families, yes.
But four in even a 10' X 10' room is not against the law.

There is a regulation for number of dwellers in a house as provided for in the ordinances of local government units.

There are township or city ordinances that deal with that but it doesn't seem as if your neighbors are breaking any laws.
