I don't know about religious use, but yes it isn't more harmful than cigarettes so I think so. I don't think our government has a valid reason to ban it.

Should marijuana be legal? That is the question. There are report's that say a person that smokes it on a daily basis are less likely to be depressed.. ...
I can see advantages, taxable advantages, to legalization. As well as some disadvantages... If it were to be legal to purchase and smoke it could be taxed, think of the revenue the government would have then. There would have to be very strict law's regarding the personal growing of it though. Or the taxation would not work.
There would also have to be time sensative test's available for patrol officer's to use just as they do for alcohol... how do you know for sure a person is impared if the testing show's usage for multiple day's... when in fact the person may not have used for 2 days but still has THC in their system.... Also age restrictions.. make it 21... same as alcohol....
Some feel that legalizing pot will make other *Hard Core* drug use increase.. I hate to tell folks this.. but there are less pot heads than there are coke heads.... just think about that one...
A person that has been smoking pot is more likely to call and order a pizza to be delivered.. than they are to get behind the wheel and go get a pizza or make a beer run... a pot head will have pot on hand.. and not have to make a pot run when they are smoking....
Yes I do feel it should be legal.. if for no other reason than for medical purposes... I have family member's that have suffered through end stage cancer... that could have benefited greatly from the use of pot.... I also has a brother in law that was given 6 months to live.. and he was with us for 6 years due to his illegal use of pot... he was able to eat and not be sick after chemo thanks to pot....
It is time for the U. S. to stand up and realize that marijuana is no different than alcohol.....

Of course it shoud for many reasons ( in no particular order.) ( drugs in general, but some ( mostly the safety ones) particular to pot)
Any danger it poses ( none apparently, but even if it did) would be better controlled by regulaiton.
Taxed it would provide funds for the government rather than for drug dealers.
Without drug income most gangs would disappear.
Without the obsceane profits in drugs ( only a consequnce of their being illeagal) police corruption would fall.
Much petty crime ( that which supports habits) would be reduced since drugs at a true market price would be cheap.
Much violent crime, as in that between gangs and gang violence that impinges on non-gang members would be elieviated.
The government ought not to be interfearing in peoples purely self regarding actions. If they are concerned about things that people on drugs do, they should punish those things specificially.
Drug laws are widely ignored. Leading to a contempt for law in general and the lies to to childeren about the dangers of drugs create a mistrust of government when they learn the truth.
Drug laws are unfaily applied ( recall Willie Nelson recently being pulled over with huge amounts of drugs and being let off with well nothing, and Snoop Dog, being threated with signifigent jail time for much less).
As things are now, large amounts of drug profits leave this country furthur damaging our "balance of trade."
Our drug policy creates problems far beyond our borders, for example, funding Columbian rebels and corruption in Mexico.
We spend a sick amount of money on interdiction programs that do absolutly nothing and filling jails with non-violent criminals who have hurt no one but themselves.
Our police waste time pursuing people who are not dangerous while real criminals go free.
We have seriously curtainled our constitutional rights ( particularly those against unreasonable searches - witness drug testing) for the sake of these laws.
A huge number of the problems in this country are drug related - that is they are specifically a result of drugs being illeagal.
By the way, I am not a drug user. I tried pot once in high school. I am an attorney.

marajuana should be legalized because so many people do it first of all. and it has wonderful medicinal purposes, I think in the roman times woman would use it in labor. its great for people who have HIV because it helps increase their appetite as well as cancer patients. less people would be in jail or even prison so in turn the governement could use the tax dollars on other things. some countries actually eat the marajuana seeds. thats my personal opinion. and it can help people with bad sex drives by increasing it and making it a more pleasureful experience.

It should not be legal at all. First of all the price would double and the govt doesn't need anything else to screw up. Also it would create the impression to our innocent little teenagers that drug use is acceptable.

plant a seed, it grows, it can be smoked without any tampering of the plant, you catch a buzz you feel good and it's natural...why not???? Not natural for your lungs to inhale but it can make an old person with arthrits feel comfortable and it can put a person to sleep who has trouble getting to sleep......i think more power to ya. I'd rather see pot legal than alcohol and tobacco. Far more deaths.
