I went back to school for history, High school history about the history of Canada.

I need a simple explanation of what " SEIGNEURY" means.

Ive been looking for the meaning of this word everywhere in the book.

can anyone help find a simple meaning to this?

A seigneury is the power, rank, or estate of a seigneur.

A seigneur is a man of rank, especially a feudal lord in the ancien régime. Or In Canada, a man who owned a large estate originally held by a feudal grant from the king of France.
