I think I might have given someone the wrong shipping address on a package they sent to me via USPS priority. Is there a way that I can get the package from the post office? Or contact them to let them know it's coming?

USPS is a lot different than UPS. With USPS you might be able to redirect the package if you have the shipping # of the package. However, with most US mail, I think its the law that it must go to where it was sent.

In this case, you can try to contact the people who live at that particular address and ask them to save it for you or send it back to the shipper. It happened to me and thank goodness I had a nice person to deal with. They actually watched for the delivery and brought it right to me.

USPS may be able to stop the shipment as well. That would mean sending it back to the sender - not to you. This takes about 3 weeks or so to straighten out. Good luck.

The Post Office would not likely deliver it to a stranger just because it had the wrong address on it. Generally speaking a letter carrier is familiar with the names of residents at an address on his route.
You best bet is to contact the local post office where the item is being sent. If you know the incorrect address they should be able to intercept it and redirect it to you at the correct address providing that you give some proof of identity, and proof that the package indeed belongs to you.

If you do receive it be sure to thank your letter carrier. It pays to be nice to your letter carrier. They can have long memories.

Look on line and you can track it through ups. Do it now. This may give you time to contact ups and change address!
