A friend of mine was terminated suddenly. He coordinates with with sales vendors and he travels often to work the trade shows for his company. He has worked there for about 7 or 8 years. Always goes the extra mile and has had excellent performance reviews. About 3 weeks ago was suddenly terminated. No reason was given at the time and since he has tried to contact his general manager with no success. Still no reason has been given to him regarding this sudden termanition. What are the laws regarding this type of termination?

If he is in a work at will state, then no notice or explanation is required from either the employer or employee, unless there is an employment contract. It does seem rather odd that they wouldn't give any explanation at all, but not necessarily illegal.

He is going to have to contact his State Labor Board and find out what his options are. None of this sounds right to me. Good luck.

Did he file for unemployment and was he denied?

If he is receiving unemployment he may have no recourse.

If they denied him unemployment he may be able to sue.

He needs to talk to a labor attorney.
