Oh boy, you and me are in the same boat, so I have sympathy, my friend! Eating it seems is your addiction. And the fact that you have not been indulging in other things like drugs, alcohol, and sex make it all the more easy for you to satisfy yourself with food.
I find my battle with it is that you must eat food everyday for life, unlike alcohol, or sex, or drugs. It's not like you just need to reduce the amount of heroin you take everyday, you have to stop altogether to really beat it. Unfortunately you have to keep eating which makes it, in my opinion, one of the toughest addictions to deal with.
Will power is your only hope. You have it for the other things you mentioned. If you can channel some of that resolve into your eating habits, you will be able to do it.
I have been able to do this for periods. You can too.

Try to notice the following:
I have heard the taste buds are most sensitive to the first bite or two of an item. After that, the taste, even if it is an enjoyable one, just is not as intense. A person may want to eat more, somehow thinking they will again experience that very satisfying level of taste again, and it just doesn't get there.
So, take the time to really notice a small amount of food; give it your full attention. You may be able to eat less, but enjoy it more.

Try therapy. A good therapist can help you understand that you may have a food addiction. They will also help you understand what triggers you to make you want to eat when you really aren't hungry.
Also, you may want to start keeping a journal. Write down what you eat each day and remember to add how you were feeling when you ate. This way, you'll discover things about WHY you eat. For example, are you an emotional eater; do you find comfort in food, etc.
Try these links, I hope they help you.
Good luck!

I like to think of hunger as my weight loss friend, instead of a nasty enemy. When hunger comes, welcome it and thank it for helping you lose weight.
