Fastening.

Bolts can be used with a nut or threaded directly into a tapped hole.

Nuts are used with bolts, screws and studs.

Screws are used similarly to bolts.

Studs are long rods that are threaded on both ends. One end is typically threaded into a tapped hole, another part is slipped over the stud and a nut is installed on the exposed threads of the stud to join the two pieces.
