The man was a marxist murderer from a rich family. He helped foment a revolution in a country that wasn't his, he killed innocent people without trial in cold blood, suppressed free speech and and the liberties of students by censoring collegiate activity, cheated on his wife, and helped turn Cuba into the sh*thole it is today with communist economic policies. So why do college kids love him so?

I think college students are more enamored by the image of Che than the reality of the "Butcher of Santiago." What do you expect from a generation obsessed with video games, text messaging and branded lifestyles? I hope some of them are curious enough about Che that they will actually read about what a ruthless lunatic he was.

By the way, I think the commercialized appropriations of Che's image is hilarious. Capitalism makes money off of a Communist. Score! While in Buenos Aires, I saw a billboard with Diego Meradona smiling; it read, in Spanish, "Like Che, I am a rebel." Sure, he's a rebel worth tens of millions of dollars.

All college students go through this, its cool to be rebellious and to have posters or wear t-shirts of Che Guevara, good or bad he is just one of those sixties icons that these kids relate to, its the anti-establishment faze they go through, most probably don't have a clue or be even bothered to understand what he did or represented, in a few years when they have families and mortgages, Che Guevara won't mean anything to them anymore, just a nostalgic symbol of their past.
