Why not try singing the lyrics on a video blog on youtube? If your voice and talent are appreciated, they will watch and word will get around. Who knows? Maybe you'll get discovered by record executives. A number of youtube members have gotten attention this way. If you're lucky enough to meet or know a guitar player, he/she can work with you on composing the music based on the melody.

If you look on the album covers, you will find the songwriters' names. You can also search for the lyrics of songs, and the songwriters will be given credit. As another person said, they may write their own songs, but major singers have their pick of a lot of songs presented to them. The writer of the song, according to the contract, will either get a set amount of money or will get an amount plus a royalty, which is a small percentage of the price every time the performance is sold. There is also the case of remakes or "covers". I don't know how many songs that those artists have redone from others' originals.

Go play at open mic nights at cafes and such. Eventually, you'll start being demanded and you'll get paid for your playing if you're any good. Start a myspace and learn how to record yourself so you can put some of your music on myspace. Make cd's of yourself and sell them for like $5 to people. There's like millions of things you could do. If you want to be famous, I don't really know what to say about that. You just have to keep practicing the guitar and coming up with more stuff and maybe you'll be discovered by an agent someday and get a record deal. You can also set up meetings with agents yourself, I believe, but it might be better just to coast and be discovered because then you know you really have talent.

Get a friend to play guitar, rent some studio time, and record a demo, then, send it to music labels and local radio stations to see if you can get airtime.

record the songs without guitar, and post it on youtube or something, along with a request for a guitarist to help.
Or ask one of your friends to learn =]

I'd like to hear your songs...send the link to me if you ever post them <3

Good Luck - I started when I was 15 and still can't get heard. I hope you figure it out - I really do - I never could figure it out.
