live paycheck to paycheck but have lots of free time, or make lots of money but always have a ton of work to do?

depends on the work but i guess have a lot of work and get lots of money to provide my family that i will possibly have in the future.

Its great to live paycheck to paycheck . All that free time becomes loads of fun !!! Hmmm! something missing !
Lots of money but always having lots of work to do does not seem enjoyable at all.
So I would like to rephrase that to say it would be great to always have a good paycheck so that all that free time could be put to good use. The ideal state , like having a cottage by the sea ,eh?

I like to spend time with my kids and vegging out so id take the paycheck to paycheck thing

Live paycheck to paycheck.
Simply because life is far too short to be tied down to something and end up not being able to enjoy my life until I'm too old.
And I just don't want to be one of those people that buy a ferrari when they're around 60 or something and end up driving the speed limit.

there comes a time in life when we need to stop work and need enough to live on and somewhere to live. A pay cheque to pay cheque may work if the cheques were large enough to cover all costs and be able to save a percentage each cheque for a nest egg, Then Pay Cheque to Pay Cheque works for me The spare time to live and enjoy life with family. But if the cheques were not large enough sooner or later we would be stuck with no money no home and in a big mess.
The second choice lots of money no spare time your life would be work. But at the end the nest egg would be nice I think quality of life may be compromised, but you could rest in retirement .
A perfect world of plenty of cash and plenty of spare time only works for a small minority
