I'm 6' tall, smooth nice brown skin and complection, pretty oval shaped face, full lips, very well dressed(always designer clothing and shoes) I keep my medium length hair in good shape. I have a future ahead of me(I'll be graduation w/ my masters in sociology in Dec 07) I take care of my responsiblities diligently . I drive a nice truck( 05 Toyata 4runner) I have a pretty good outlook on life and I love my self and life abundantly. Oh did I mention I'm a fat girl. help me understand why the media and general public percieve me as unattractive.

No offense but none of what you just mentioned matters. True beauty is on the inside not the outside. Some of the women that do fit the media stereotype of a goodlooking women are so ugly because they have nasty attitudes. Love yourself and know that what other people say doesnt matter.

It sounds like you are a very intelligent and attractive person. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! You say that you have a good outlook on life and that you love yourself and life. Why do you worry so much about what the media says, and how do you know what the general public thinks? Just because - as you say - you are a fat girl, does not mean that you are stupid, unkempt or ugly. I would be happy to have you for a friend.

Because the media wants all women to be 100 pound skeletons like Paris Hilton. They know that grown women's bodies don't naturally look like that - and that women will spend a lot of money to buy products that will make them have that unnatural look.
As for the "general public" you'd be suprised how many people are not prejudiced at all against fat women. I know I'm not - I actually find fat women more attractive than skinny chicks!

Let me be honest with you, there is NOTHING wrong with you whatsoever. You have everything going for you. It's disgraceful that Hollywood and the media try to dictate what is beautiful and worthwhile, and what is not. Who are these idiots to decide beauty? They are the most disfunctional bunch of perverts on the planet, and they should not be looked upon as trend setters.

First of all, with a masters in sociology, you already know the answer to this. But let me reiterate it for you - the media together with those in the fashion industry continue to perpetuate an image of the painfully thin woman as the beautiful woman. The fact that we mindlessly worship whippet thin celebrities, shell out millions a year on diet programs, and continue to applaud the efforts of male fashion designers who create clothes for stick-figure models all serves to continue this cycle.

SIster this is the WORLD. What future you may have, it would be better to say "If God wills" I have a future etc etc. Being a "plus size woman" has always had its naysayers, they say if you want a good man then take the steps to lose the weight. I say that ALL Gods creations are beautiful, as it was written, he said " and seen that it was good" behind everything that he made. You are not unattractive, you are programmed to believe that you are. Be yourself, but if you want a good man, stop looking for him, pray, and if you believe, maybe you will get the one that is cut from the mold, especially for you.

The general public are fixated on the outer person instead of inner. Some people were raised to only see beauty from the outside.. its sad but it does happen

Because we live in a materialistic world controlled by men. I've dated some attractive guys and found that all they cared about was appearances. It makes you appreciate the regular looking guys and girls for their friendship as well.
Its all part of what's destroying America....

what's odd is that a century ago, fat was beautiful.
starting in the 60's with Twiggy, the satan-dominated media has decided thin is beautiful.
as long as you are not unhealthy in your weight, you are beautiful to me, and to God.
