I moved to Texas from San Francisco about two years ago.
The biggest adjustment is how HOT it is here in the summertime. You WILL need a place with central air conditioning.
Winters can get downright cold, depending on where you are. In San Antonio, where I lived the first year, and Dallas area, where I live now, you need a warm coat, hat, and gloves in the winter. In the Dallas area it snowed several times this winter, although not enough to really shake a stick at. But it was there.
The people I've met here are awesome, the barbecue is great, the prettiest sunsets I've ever seen are here in Texas. I like it here a lot and I hope you will too. Feel free to drop me an email (j3nny3lf at yahoo dot com) if you want to talk more about it or ask any specific questions.

I think it depends on the area... keep in mind that Texas is a HUGE state. What goes in Dallas is not necessarily what goes in Austin, or even Houston or Corpus Christi.
Western Texas is flat, flat, flat--and it's dotted with little one-streetlight towns where the people get dressed up to eat at Denny's. The 'capitol' of this region is El Paso, which is also an interesting study in 'haves' and 'have-nots', since it lies right on the U.S.-Mexico border. Dallas/Fort Worth has its roots in cattle ranching, so there's a definite cowboy vibe in that city--they have the oldest indoor rodeo in the country. Corpus Christi is a popular Spring Break destination; draw your own conclusion there.
That's about all I know about Texas, lol. I try not to stay there any longer than I have to; I'm too California-ized.

Its a big state. Houston,San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas are among the biggest. Houston and Dallas have a much higher crime rate though. Theres lots to do throughout Texas but I myself, am relocating because I cannot stand the Texas heat!!! Overall, for someone who hasnt experienced Texas, its gonna be an adventure. Ive just seen it all thats why Im bored. Good luck! :)

I stay in Texas and that i love Texas. Neither state has a state income tax, it extremely is robust. i'm no longer on the Texas coast and admittedly, living too close to to the coast scares me by way of aptitude for hurricanes. because of that, i imagine i'd continuously opt for Texas over Florida. even if, i visit assert that Florida is a most suitable position to holiday. there's a spectacular purchase to do there.

Can you say HEAT? Well we have plenty of that, and lately a TON of rain. So expect one year to be in a drought and the next the roads will be flooded! But it is my HOME. The traffic in Houston is just HORRIBLE! I would not live there if someone paid me, I live in San Antonio.
