If they are safe and what effects they have.

I'm asking for my mum who is peri-menopausal and is looking into using a topical steroid gel.

Thanks : )

My mum feels her testosterone levels may have dropped a bit. She already uses phytoestrogens to regulate her oestrogen levels.

Basically she wants to try topical steroids for two reasons:

1) She wants to increase her sex drive

2) She wants to know if it will help with gaining more muscle mass as she weight trains regularly.

She is 52 and doesn't want to use anything dangerous or illegal.

I am not really sure what you, or she are looking for. Are you looking for topical HRT? If so, ignoring the general turn agaist HRT on safety grounds and the fact that this is not a particularly handy way to give Hormone replacement I wouldnt use it.

If you are talking about testosterone, you can't tell if you need that, blood testing and medical intervention would be needed before anyone could sensibly looking at that.

Plant phytoestrogens are a bit of a worry, we already have concerns about animal/synthetic oestrogens causing cancer. About the only thing that is known about plant oesrogens is that nothing bad seems to happen after you take then for short periods. There are no long term controlled medical safety tests to confirm what they do to women after prolonged use, at all!

If you are talking about anabolic steroids In the UK at least no steroids can or should be available without a doctor's prescription. Unfortunately the net, which I love using, has however made a mockery of this.

It is fascinating to read the reassurances that there are no risks from anabolic steroids, displayed on sites that sell them. They have presumably never had a relative have an early stroke or heart attack.

Side effects of anabolic steroids include : raising blood pressure, raising cholesterol, (both of which increase cardiovascular disease), physical damage to the heart itself, premature baldness, liver damage, Women can become hairy, and develop a deep voice.

Perhaps you could attempt to add a comment to help me understand exactly what type of therapy you are asking about.

The best person to ask is the pharmacist.

I'm curious: why would a peri-menopausal woman use the gel? What is it for? I'm asking because I am peri-menopausal. I couldn't use it though (allergic to all corticosteroids).

Whoa, abusing their roles? Huh uh. They're abusing children. I don't know what you think anyone's role is except to be a good human. That's my idea of what their roles are. But they neglected their duty as good humans and engaged in crimes. They should pay. When you say 20 percent "even" resort to force, I have to laugh. I don't CARE if they resort to force or not--they're having sex with minors. 16 should get you 20, every time.
