Generally, How much is a Central Air Conditioning system for an average home?

AND, my old central air system kinda works, but for some reason, a specific part of the house, air doesn't come through the vents, its like its disconnected from the other vents?

Its just that portion of the house, everything else is working, is something clogged>?

Average cost of a base model air conditioner with a new coil and new lineset is around $3500, including electrical. It depends on the effeciency that you want and how many square feet you have. Going with a higher efficiency model will pay for itself in the long run. The units are rated in seer, 13 being the lowest. You have to think of the seer rating like gmp in a car. Operating cost is more then the initial investment of replacing the equipment so it makes sense to get a higher efficiency model.

It sounds like you have a damaged duct in your crawlspace or attic. Lots of times people get a cable guy or an alarm guy in their home and end up with airflow problems. These guys are not considerate when it comes to your ducts. They will lay on them or crawl over them which ends up crushing the liner of the flex. It is also possible that they have just come disconnected or an animal has gotten into the space and ruined them. You can fix this yourself but it may be worth it to find someone who does heating who will work on the side. You can save a bunch of money fixing or replacing them if you dont have to pay for a heating companys overhead. Hope this was helpful!

I would say it all depends on what type of unit you have. If its a split system it may be cheaper. If your main fan is in a closet in the house and your compressor is outside then you have a split unit. If its cooling then its working. As far as air not reaching a room or area. You might want to check the the duct work. Some homes have a tubing that is made out of cloth type material. If that tubing has a rip in it then your just cooling the attic. Or you can adjust your registers( vents )where the air comes out. You may also check your A coil in your closet. Even if you change your filter once a month dust and debris can still clogg your A coil. I would try cleaning the A coil and check your duct work before i would replace anything. Hope this helps.

If you are talking about replacing the A coil, lines and the compressor, it would depend on the size of the unit but I would think a couple of thousand.

The ducts may have diverters built in them and that is how you can adjust the heat's flow through the house. If a room gets too warm, you can throttle that vent back which will force more air into a colder part of the house. So, that is a way to balance the air.

call an AC company. they can give you an estimate for what a new system would cost. as for the one you have not working, most likely it'd cost more to get it fixed than to get a new one. for the guy to just go out to your home it'll be over a 100 dollars most likely.
peace
