The man would be dead before the python swallowed him, and if he wasn't, then he would suffocate inside the snake before he woke up, as there is no air in there. I love the pothead questions late at night.

First Of All That Would not Be Possible, The Only Way Anything Gets Through A Python Is If The Animal, And in Your Case The Person Has Been Constricted And Suffocated To Death, Once An Animal, Or Human Stops Moving And Even After That The Snake Will Keep It's Tight Constriction For Another 15 to 30 Minutes Before It Starts To Swallow It's Prey Whole. Even A Live Human Being Would Have To Have It's Hand On A Knife Before The Strike In Order To Survive Since Boa's Or Python's Strike The Face First And Curl From The Face Down.

To answer the question you asked, good for the man. I wouldnt feel bad, nature is all about survival, being able to somehow survive constriction then swallowing and then to manuever to grab a knife in the gut is quite the feat.
But like everyone else has said, it's not possible. Boa's kill the prey through suffocation and crushing of their prey, unlike what people have said, a full grown retic COULD swallow a full grown human *IF* it went about it the right way. If the full grown persons shoulders were vertical the snakes jaw could open wide enough to fit inside, if the shoulders were horizontal the snakes jaw couldnt get around the shoulders.
National geographic showed a good case of this on one of their shows where a retic attacked a man in Brazil but choked to death because his shoulders were horizontal. I cant find any of the photo's they used int he program however.

the man would be dead for one, pythons constrict their prey tll there very last breathe, if im not mistaken, and so he would have definately been awake during the process,
But hypothetically, if he was able to be swallowed while he was asleep, and magically wake up in the belly of the large snake, and just so happened to have a knife on him and wasnt being digested by the stomach acid, and cut his way out, i would have to say, congrats to the man that he gets to see another day, and maybe the next time he wont fall asleep in the pythons enclosure?
cuz if h feel asleep in the jungle ide have to say he would prolly be eaten and have a not so pleasent trip to the stomach of the animal.
unfortuantely tho, i would have to pay my respects to the large snake that ate the man, and would have been a fine speciman. but it prolly had a long happy life any way :)

A do not think a python could eat a man, for one thing. Anacondas can eat children, but I have never heard of one actually eatting a full grown man. I worked with a guy who immigrated from Brazil- children would dissapear all the tiem (and a big fat snake would show up). They would kill the snake, but by then it is too late.
Plus, your guy would have been killed before the snake would eat him (heart would have had to stop)

I'd be in disbelief.
First of all, no python is large enough to swallow a full-grown man. They'd be strong enough to kill one but the shoulders are too large for them to get around. It'll have to be a world-record snake.
Secondly, the man would be dead by the time he was swallowed. That's what constrictors do. So it'll be a miracle if he came back to life (without air in the python's gut).
Third miracle would be the fact that he was holding on to a knife the entire time and had room in there to manourve his arms around to get enough elbow room to hack his way out.

Pythons tend to kill their food before eating, but can eat some very large meals.
