Where they hang out depends on the tree frog. The spring peeper (native) us usually found around water, but I've seen them climbing bushes about 15 feet away from the water.

My red-eyed treefrog spends almost all his time hanging upside down under the leaves of a potted plant in his tank.

Some Cuban tree frogs and White's tree frogs I used to have spent their day hanging on the sides of their tank even though there were branches for them to climb.

One thing they have in common, is they all have the sticky toe pads that let them climb, if they want to. We just may not see them doing it!

Most frogs in general live on the ground, near or in water, but tree frogs do actually hang out in trees.

A tree frog can easily attach to vertical surfaces. It's got "sticky" feet. They could sit on the walls of your house with no problem. They live in trees as far as I know. I checked with Wikipedia though, and they said that many species of tree frogs live near water:

tree frogs, i imagine, are most commonly found near trees, or on trees, and on a hot summery night they sound like the trees are covered in them. they do have the toepads that stick to alot of things. yes your right they are found near water becasue unlike the toad they are a frog, frogs must keep their skin moist, because believe it or not they sorta breathe from their skin, their skin absorbs oxygen, so they must keep moist, and if their already fragile skin gets to dry they can actually rip their skin. also they are more likely to be found there, because they are very good camoflaugers. they blend in to tree brak, leaves and branches extremely well, and it is when they are out of their natural habitat is when they are found because they dont blend in so well, greys tree frog though can somewhat change their skin color depending on what color substrate they are on.

and they are green in color which makes them invisible when they r sitting in the green tree leafs.
