Okay my brother had a Bearded dragon...It wasn't even a year old and it dies recently. A few days ago it was fine healthy running and doing good. Then around Tuesday wednesday time frame it started being a little sluggish, but okay for the most part. Then Yesterday he found it in it's tank w/ it's face/head completely eaten or decomposed of some sort, however the rest of the body seemed fine. i've done some reasearch but found nothing anybody who owns lzards/reptiles or has knowledege of the subject that can help me out and tell me how It might have died? Thank you very much appreciated!!!

Well more specific, it might have been the crickets because it was fine earlier in the week...If the mouth rot was noticeable we would have been noticed and we didn't notice anything wrong. We have other pets but the one dog that goes in is room never does anything. We feed it fruits & the crickets, but my bro did have atleast 30 crickets in there. So i don't know what's wrong.I just want 2 have ideas

I would say either mouth rot (from bedding stuck in it's mouth or some other injury and getting infected) or possibly the crickets ate him. He might not have killed them, ate them too slow, or some crickets were alive in the tank- and they started eating him (leading to infection in his mouth). Once an infection starts or some type of injury, lizards go under pretty quick.
Sorry for your loss

It's difficult to give a definative answer without being able to examine the lizard. Your vet can preform a necropsy if you are really concerned, but it will be expensive. I doubt if he was killed by the crickets, however, they would have dined on a body. Something that killed him that quickly would probably have been a resptitory infection, reptiles have almost no immune system. Internal parrasites are also an option, but an infected reptile usually dies alot more slowly and show signs such as diminished activity and appetite. I hope your beardie lived alone, if not, his tank mates should see a vet. Keep in mind that most vets have little experiance with reptiles, so check your yellow pages for a vet that treats exotics.

If it was mouth rot it should of been noticed well before it got to the point of completly destroying the head. Mouth rot is usually very noticeable before it becomes deadly, in most cases.
My guess is he left live feeders in the tank and they ate the dragon, one cricket alone can do plenty of damage, if he left enough crickets in over night it's no suprise they could devour that much in a night. Dragons are VERY deep sleeper's, crickets nibbling on them wont wake them.
If he kept the dragon in the tank with any other kind of animal there's a good possibility the other animal attacked it in the night, this is if it shares a tank with anything, even another bearded dragon.

the only way he would die is from rigidity yet i don't think of he will die in a single evening. And good interest mendacity on your little cousin because of the fact little ones that age do exactly not understand. and you do not ought to feed it the ants will greater then probable get out. yet i'd recommend speaking to somebody approximately getting her a puppy lizard. thank you for doing the appropriate element.

did he suffer any head injuries? or does your brother have any other pets? a rock may have fell and injured it, or maybe a suvere case of mouth rot. I have never heard of this happening in a reptile with out a severe infection or attack by another pet, either in the cage or out of the cage. i used to raise oscar fish, and had to be care ful of how much feeder comets i feet them becasue they could get "hole in the head" disease, where they actually develop a large wound in their head and eventually kill them, but thats a fish and were talking about a reptile. this sounds weird, but if your brother has mice, mice will gnawl on dead things, and my pet mice were able to get in and out of their tank with ease if you didnt pay attention and have the lid off. well sorry about his loss, they are great lizards. and hope you find a answer!

edit your question and be more specific as far as the lizard and what it was fed. I doubt mouthrot as it is very noticeable. like the other responses probably crickets. do not purchase another lizard till the culperate its found you do not want to repeat the same mistake. learn what happened and learn why it happened

I am really not sure what happened to your dragon.Ihave one so can you please tell your brother sorry for the loss of his pet. Bearded dragons can become part of the family just like a cat of a dog.
