I asked this question already.

"The president of the leading Southern Baptist seminary has incurred sharp attacks from both the left and right by suggesting that a biological basis for homosexuality may be proven, and that prenatal treatment to reverse gay orientation would be biblically justified."

*sighs* It's sad, but speaking from a scientist point of view, I was afraid this was gonna happen one day. As science gets more and more advanced, we're going to determine genetic factors for certain behaviors and characteristics, and then people are going to want to "play god" and eliminate the "unwanted".
Could you imagine being able to get pregnant and "special order" your child? Like if you wanted a baby that was a girl, or a boy, or with brown hair or blonde hair, or gay, or straight. I think the world would turn into something like the "Stepford Wives" or soemthing..scary. I think we need diversity, and random assortment of the species. I think Mendel was pretty right on target. When you go eliminating certain characteristics, the gene pool starts to get mighty shallow. Leave well enough alone, and let nature take it's course.

The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary that he is the president of is in a liberal community and he is attempting to portray himself as something other than a die-hard conservative in order to get others to listen to him in the hopes of converting them to his views.

The man's running headlong against the SBC by believing the science. He's running headlong against society by declaring pre-natal surgery should be wasted on preventing people from becoming gay.

Tell that to BlueCross-BlueShield and see if they're willing to fund that surgery at $100,000 per event. With no guarantee of success.

I think he deserves all the backlash he's getting. The conservatives are insulted because one of their own, a very powerful one of their own, is saying that homosexuality very likely has a basis in biology and is therefore not a choice. The liberal types are mad because this guy is suggesting that homosexuality is something that needs to be corrected.

*Yawn* indeed.

If his assumptions are right, that means God (for whatever reason) wills for gay people to be born the way they are.

He assumes that being gay is in-born.

In the end, he might be helping the gay cause a little bit.
