It's true you need a good goalie to win.
A top blue liner is key. For example, the 91-92 Penguins had Larry Murphy.
A coach who can put together good lines and make adjustments when needed.
You can't win if you don't score, so you need 2 good scoring lines.
Special teams in the playoffs is magnified, because of the amount of penalties called, so penalty killers are very important. Ask the 1979 Bruins.
Since there is no shootout, the conditioning to go overtime. Ask the 1998 Flyers about their 3 OT win over Pittsburgh.

mainly a good defense. then all around team chemistry. think about it, if your team has a great defense, your goalie won't need to stand on his head all game, he won't face too many shots. with chemistry i mean an offense that can score, a smart coach the team respects and also don't forget a strong fan base. fans can really raise the morale of a team and play with more excitement. i'm from pittsburgh, obviously a penguins fan, right now they're playing great and i look forward to a strong playoff run. but they don't have the best defense. new jersey probably does. definately the best goalie in brodeur. when pitssburgh won back to back cups in the early 90's, they had an average defense, but an explosive very skilled offense that made up for it. anyway, this will be a good year for the nhl playoffs. GO PENS!!!

First and foremost they need a hot goaltender.
Beyond that they have to be the team that will push what the referee's will give in regards to physical play and bottling up the other team, without going over the line and ending up in the box. If they can get the other team to abandon their normal style of game it is a bonus. The playoffs are a long road and the team that wins will keep their heads and not let any surges by the other team rattle them.
Teams that win Stanley Cups play disciplined, hungry hockey and force the other team to make more mistakes.

Everyone upstairs pretty much nailed it. Obviously you need a Goalie with a lot of experience or at least (as in the case of Cam Ward) one that gets hot at the right time.
You need excellent team defense, if I remember correctly only one team that has given up more than 300 Goals in the regular season has won it.
Your team has to have depth. In the regular season one or two guys can do it for you, in the playoffs you need 4 good lines and 6 good defensemen, otherwise your "superstar" will get extra defensive attention and be held scoreless.
Luck is important, I can't think of a lot of Stanley cup winners who had a key player hurt.

Goalies have been exceptionally important in the past few years, for sure.
1. Leadership - The Edmonton Oilers made the finals last year because their leaders showed their team how they needed to play. Mike Peca blocking shots is evidence enough.
2. Toughness (or team health) - The Buffalo Sabres should have won the Cup last year, but didn't because they were too hurt to beat the 'Canes. You'll notice they got much tougher this year...see Lindy Ruff's last fine.
3. Somebody gets hot - One, or two players get hot. Fernando Pisani ring any bells? Not this year...but he scored a ton of goals last year in the playoffs.

well an excellent goalie and maybe the must underrated, a good coach. coaches must be calm in the playoffs and lead. another important aspect is not being tired. a lot of teams who just work there way into the playoffs have momentum but are tired...

A goalie can win it for a team. When a team see's the goalie making incredible saves, it inspires the rest of the team. If it doesn't, then many shot's of Adrenalin should do the trick.

Goaltending, heart and a deep line up. You atleast three lines that can do it for you. Special teams are crucial to the new NHL. Staying out of the penalty box helps also.

team work and stick to there game plan. yes goalies need to be hot for you to advance. you need your 3rd line to help out allot and your grinders to play physical but watch out for penalty calls. and your top players need to be on there game cause they need help from all the other lines to succeed. this is a team sport and this is hockey playoff time the hardest championship to win in any major pro sport. BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS.
