right click on any of your harddrive (HD), select tools, and you'll see Defragment button. It's almost the same way as XP.

From what I know about Vista it is in system tools just like most versions of Windows. It does not have the same interface as Windows XP ,it doesn't show progress bar or how badly the hard drive is fragmented .I think in Windows Vista it is also set to defrag once a week if I'm not mistaken. The best answer for more control of defragging your computer is defragging software. The best software I ever used is Raxco Perfectdisc. There are others but I think they all have a free trial, try them out and see if they work better for your computer.

You don't really need to defragment modern hard drives very often. Especially if it is 80% empty, you should have no need to defragment right now. Unless your computer is noticeably slowing down compared to when you got it, there is no need to defrag.

whenever you ask for the "suited" something, there will be modifications in comments. loose Dirms pagedfrg.exe (from sysinternals for pagefile and equipment archives basically) diskeeper lite Disk Defragmenter outfitted into abode windows (microsoft have been given a stripped down version of diskeeper from government application) commercial O&O (constructive) raxco perfectdisk diskeeper vopt There are a pair different commercial ones nicely worth looking too yet i'm lacking time and money... you need to truly examine the web comments in the previous making a decision

I know I'm as lost as you are, but I kinda like this Vista, it looks kind of Mac.
