I think this is his best yr,,Listen,Cashman didn't want Randy Johnson,or Kevin Brown,,It was Stienbrenner. Now last yr Cashman, told Steinbrenner if he didn't let him run the club his way he was gone,,Now this off season Cashman made Great trades,Got rid of Randy Johnson,Got three young pitchers in return,,Got rid of Sheffield,,got another three young pitchers in return,,We could of had Zito,Cashman said no more Big Names!!Plus he saved another 34 mil,This is is best yr by far,,I like him,,It was Steinbrenner that wanted an all star team,Cashman wants to do things the way we did it in the 90s Home grown farm boys!! And he's doing it right since he took control!

Cashman has held the job for a while now and that says alot. He had early success in his tenure and was looking like a genius. He's made some bad deals recently, the worst ever being Kevin Brown followed by Pavano. He's made many deals since they last won a WS and none have really panned out. Johnson, Arod, Giambi, Sheffield, and even Mussina can't be considered successful as Yankees and that's almost $500 million paid to these 7 players in 6 yrs!

Cashman was successful at first when he sent the Yankees to the 1998, 1999, 2000 World Series, but expensive contracts and veteran signings did not work.
HOWEVER, that was George Steinbrenner taking charge of the team.
Cashman has more control of the team and you will see an influx of younger and more realiable talent, thus sending the Yankees well stocked into the future.

Yes, Cashman is a very good GM. The Yankees were horrible in the early 90s, but when Steinbrenner was suspended for 3 years, it was Gene Michael who was GM and Cashman was the assistant. It was they who started building the farm system which gave them Bernie, Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Rivera, and Mendoza. Michael and Cashman traded for O'Neill, Girardi, Tino, and Brosius, all average or very good players who fit together like a puzzle. Now that Cashman has control and Steinbrenner's cronies are out of the way, he is going back to the plan that allowed them to win four World Series titles. He is also slowly lowering the payroll and will show fans that the Yankees can win without some of the high-priced players who haven't produced in the clutch.

I think Cashman and his scouts did a decent jobs. Their farm system is very underrated. They produced guys like Bernie, Jeter, Mo, and recently Cano who are stars and some HOFers. The signed solid international players like Chin Ming Wang. People only remember the bad ones like Irabu, Bubba Crosby, etc.
I dont like Cashman's free agent signings either but when it comes to starting pitchers it is very hard to sign em given this market. Thats why most teams prefer to develop their own starting ace. Yankees have one in Philip Hughes.

It is really hard to evaluate him because he is playing with such a bigger budget than anyone else. If other GMs make a bad deal and get stuck with a big contract it can screw up their team for years. But the Yanks can shrug it off and buy another player.
There is no other GM who has that luxury.
That being said, being able to survive a decade working for Steinbrenner is pretty amazing.

yes. he is doing a good job. he could do better by getting rid of the older, over the hill players, which he has been doing, and add better pitching. which he is working on. he has a hard a&* for a boss, but he is given the greatest players and the most money for any team in mlb.

The GM is ok... The problem is he spends so much. He goes over the limit and has to pay it back
