I think I’ll be wearing green, having a green dinner with green jello, green koolaid, green mashed potatoes, green meatballs on green pasta! I still have to find some green Hostess Snowballs, those are the best way to celebrate St. Patrick’s day that I know of.
Here’s an Irish Blessing for you:
May the light always find you on a dreary day.
When you need to be home, may you find your way.
May you always have courage to take a chance
And never find frogs in your underpants.

The 1st answer is right about Irish in America drinking in pubs and Irish in Ireland going to church.
But no self-loving Irishman would ever drink green beer instead of Guinness... that's a non-Irish American custom, not an Irish one.
Also, a 4-leaf clover is NOT a shamrock. Shamrocks have 3 leafs, which is why they were used to explain the Holy Trinity to Irish Kings when St. Patrick was a missionary.

I cook corn beef and cabbage with small red potatoes in the crock pot. Let it cook from early morning to evening. Has brown sugar and apple juice base that corn beef cooks in all day.
Also...A 'tradition' since my kids were little (they're now 14, 17, 20) yet still do this...After my kids have gone to bed I add a few drops green color dye to the milk. They wake up the next morning and . . . Poof..." Hey, who turned the milk green ? Was a leprechaun here ? ". That's the one of the rare occasions I buy ' junk ' cereal...I buy Lucky Charms for the kids...they like it on St. Patrick's Day. They have that with their green milk poured over it.
My family puts on some green AS SOON AS WE CAN in the morning. If someone finds another who is not wearing green...they get pinched.
I'm not Irish...yet like to have fun with the holiday.

Nothing special. I get up and do my thing...if I think about it I will try to wear something green so nobody pinches me.
But I like all kinds of St Patty stuff all year. So many of my fav musicians are from Ireland for one, and green is my fav color, my whole house and closet are green. And potatoes and cabbage and the like? Please I eat them all the time. And I'm just as liable to pinch you on October 9 (a random day I pulled from the hat) as I am on Mar 17...which is not very likely unless I think you are cute.
So I guess, everyday is St Pattys day for me...sort of...I guess.

I don't know either, but i get the impression that people who are hardcore IRISH for real drink a lot. I have many Budweiser Steins with St. Patricks day stuff on them. I believe i'll drink some.

Nothing other than what I'd do any other day. I'm not Catholic, so I don't celebrate the religious aspect, and I'm only half Irish and look much more Native. It wouldn't fit.

There are two ways, the AMERICAN way and the IRISH way...
~AMERICAN~
-Dress in green, and if you don't you get pinched by someone who is wearing green
-some cities color their lakes and rivers green
-of course, getting drunk and drinking a whole lotta beer!
~IRISH~
-Go to church (St. Patrick was a real person and he is the patron saint of Ireland)
-Wishing on shamrocks (four leaf clovers) always known as good luck symbols
-Drinking GREEN beer (and LOTS OF IT!!!)
So i guess just as long as you're drinking, you've got the basics down!
Oh, "May the Blessings of St. Patrick's be with you!!!" thats a traditional greeting on St. Pattys day too~
