I suppose the philosopher is saying that morality guides our actions.

It is like a compass that tells us the right direction to go.

I think it means that morality is not fixed in hard & fast rules.

Morality helps you make decisions about what is the best or right thing to do. Helps you consider another person's point of view. Helps you consider what the consequences would be of your actions, for you and for other people.

Morality guides your actions.

I'm just reflecting other answers here, but my professor explains it "belief is the prelude to action" which is the same thing, basically , our morals (or beliefs) dictate our action. Conversely, if we believe we are a great person but keep doing not so great things we cannot be a great person.

....then maybe he was suggesting that you should not have ran over that turtle in your truck?

Just kidding

He is saying two things:

We are constricted by what we believe in
and
What we believe in can change

Morals and ethics are generally determined by that of which the majority of the population condones. If, say, the American population condones foul language, the media will reflect this 'moral law' and produce movies and songs with swearing in them.

Basically, we should decide what our own rules are and our actions SHOULD follow suit.

We are defined by what we do which is defined by our morals.
