The only other potential answer is B - however B is incorrect for a number of reasons. The main reason is that World War 1 escalated, from a Balkans regional dispute, into a global war BECAUSE of multi-national alliances. HAD the European nations conducted themselves with an isolationist doctrine then WW1 would have never happened.
The USA is the only country that WAS isolationist at the beginning of the conflict and returned to that doctrine at the end of the conflict...

Max is right on this one. The biggest impact of World War I was the destruction of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the fall of the Kaiser in Germany and the end of the Tsar in Russia.

The great empires were gone as of 1919.

B. Isolationism
America was an isolationist country until is got involved in capitalism, spreading the U.S. throughout the western hemisphere, but until WW1, they weren't completely out of their isolationist trend. After WW1 however, America will regret getting involved and try to revert back to an isolationist state(ex. they didn't even join the League Of Nations that Pres. Wilson wrote himself), but are obviously unsuccessful seeing as how we were helping with the war debts and got involved in WW2.
