ALL pits should not be exterminated. Not all pits are aggressive. I own a pit named Lucy, and she's the sweetest dog ever. Her best offense is licking a person to death. The ones who should be exterminated are the people who train pits (and other dogs) to be aggressive so that they fight each other.

They were, in fact, bred to hunt and work. Unfortunately (as always) irresponsible owners ruined it for everyone.
Unfortunately pit bulls have to be discriminated against because they are used for the wrong purpose. It is not unusual if you were to see a pit bull outside - no owner - no leash, to be scarred shitless. The fact of the matter is you HAVE TO BE afraid that they will attack you.
While it is not the animals fault, and I'm sure not all are bad, the unfortunate reality is that the tendency to be violent is there. If the dog cannot be "rehabilitated" they have to be put down. After all...you cannot just let them attack people.

Where did you hear this?
I live in California and they are passing a law that fines owners of ALL un-altered dogs AND cats.
No discrimination. You own an unaltered cat or dog, you pay $500.
Please understand that Pitts and Pitt mixes are very common. So common they are filling shelters. If you go to a shelter on an adverage day and look at the dogs the vast majority of them look like Pitt crosses.
People don't want Pitt crosses, so they stay there until their time runs out. It's not that they are put down more often than other dogs, it's because there are more of them than other dogs.

The problem isn't the dog, it's the people at the other end of the leash. The problem is, irresponsible owners are allowing their dogs to be aggressive and cause problems. Animal rights organizations are fanning the fires in order to take away the rights of people to get rid of dog ownership. It starts with pits but it will then spread to every other breed until we have no right to own any animal. Protect your rights.

In agreement with Danielle B-
And people need to stop blaming this breed and start placing the blame where it belongs- ON IRRESPONSIBLE AND ABUSIVE owners who teach these dogs to be vicious.
In all reality- any dog can be trained to fight and attack humans. Just last year in my county a Golden Retriever ate the face off his 3 year old owner. So even the "family type" dogs can turn and get just as mean.
They need to start placing the blame where it belongs- on the dogs owners and not stereotyping the breed.

very sturdy fact and that i agree thoroughly. the reason why more beneficial regulations are carried out on a daily basis is because the finished idea of BSL is to ultimately end all canines possession all below the guise of retaining human beings from vicious, recommend dogs. the base line is until eventually the regulation begins making human beings responsible for his or her movements and the movements of their canines, BSL will replace no longer some thing. In Italy they all began with a itemizing of 13 dogs on the unfavourable canines list and the list has now climbed to ninety 2 and the dogs on the list at the prompt are not all tremendous breed dogs there are dogs on the list including Corgis, Schipperkes and Schnauzers. those who have self assurance that BSL will end with in undemanding words pit bulls or similar style dogs favor to awaken and note what can and could ensue. it would not count number what breed of canines you own, your breed of canines can honestly with one incident develop right into a objective for BSL. each canines proprietor needs to wrestle adverse to BSL, it may nicely be your loved breed next! I concern that ultimately we've ought to visit dogs in the zoo with some thing else of the wild and unsafe animals. amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

The purpose of the People's government of California is to promulgate the Party Line, for the good of the people.
Pit Bulls are not people, and are not protected, and neither do they represent a big voting block, so they are not as protected as other Politically Correct species.
It's all very simple, you see.

Whether this law is fact or fiction, it does not surprise me at all.
Sacramento has been telling the residents of California what animals they can keep for pets (and how many) for the last 40 years.

Great! Now you're gonna get me on my soap box! I personally own a Pit bulldog. I have had him 10 yrs. He is the BEST dog. I have ever owned. When Hubby and I got him. He was a stray. He had sores on his ears and was throwing up huge worms. I doctored him up(hes fat and fine now) and he was real shy and scared. I told my husband if we are going to have a pit we are going to have a good one. so i started playing with him. he was so stupid when we first got him he couldnt even dig a hole LOL. anyways he hid under the kitchen table for a few days and i kept pulling him out and loving on him and playing with him. He started learning tricks ( he can shake, play dead, bring laundry that you drop on the floor, play fetch, and you can sit a snack or something in front of him and tell him not to touch it and he wont) he also let all my nieces and nephews ride him like a horse.,when my friends who have babies came over and he heard them cry he would run to the baby and look at it and look at the parents. then look back at the baby and whine like saying help it. then he would lick it on the head lol. and even let my little niece dress him in doll clothes. i still have those pics. he sleeps with our new born kittens. and every christmas he gets gifts and a stocking from santa he will look at his stocking that has treats in it and whine .. until he gets his favorite little treats. he has his own throw blanket and pillow he sleeps with on the floor. he catches snowballs in his mouth and loves to go bye bye. I know a lot of people are scared of this breed of dog. but they are like any other dog. its all in the way you raise them . if you raise them to be nice and a family pet. they will give their life for you.(true story my dog saved a friend of mines life. a drunk guy came at him with a knife. he was just out for a walk and didnt know the guy and my dog jumped on the guys chest and knocked him to the ground and the knife went flying) my dog had his feet on the guys chest looking at him until my friend told him good boy come on.) he didnt bite the guy or anything. but if your stupid and abuse them and teach them to fight then yeah i am sure they can be dangerous. remember several years ago it was the dobermans, and the Rotts. that got the bad rep. now its just the pits turn. also watch the little rascals their dog petey is a pit. dont stero type every dog of that breed. its the un educated , scared people who think all pits are evil. that i will never own another one after this dog goes. and its gonna break my heart when he does. i am only speaking from MY personal experiance with MY dog that i have had for 10 yrs. I cant say how other people choose to raise them and i am sure alot of people have them who dont need to. anyways. theres my 2 cents worth.
