Usually they do not. 18 credits is considered a heavy load and more than that is usually a formula for failure because a student lacks the time to devote to his studies with that many classes.

They will usually approve it as long as you are not in bad academic standing... They will require you to pay more money. At least mine does, tuition usually covers 15-18 credits, anything after you have to pay. I wouldn't recommend doing it myself, the college experience is suppose to include some fun. Its not all about the work, plus you want to be sure to do well.

Most colleges will require special permission to take more than a certain number of credit hours... the exact number depends on the college and whether you're on a quarter or semester system.

I attend Ohio University...we're allowed to take up to 20 hours a quarter. Any more hours than that and we have to get approval as well as pay more.

I have taken 19 credit hours the past 2 quarters, it's been kind of rough but that's more because of the nature of the classes (almost all 300 level english)

That depends on the school you go to, and how many credits each class are worth.

For example, I take 5 credits a semester, 5 classes. It's possible to do 6, but you need approval beforehand.

Talk to your adviser or go to the department head of your major and talk to them.

At my college, 18 is the max, however there has to be a way around that(with the admissions and advisors), but I sure wouldn't want more than 18 credits and a job!
