If you get one from a PetSmart it's $9.99. Some smaller pet shops can be a little higher or lower, depending on the shop. petsmart is probably your best way to go...

Get two gerbils. They are social and not happy alone. Gerbils cost from 7-15$ each in a pet store.

Why don't you want to go with a breeder? Gerbils are less from a breeder, usually, of fancier colors, and better socialized to people. check the breeder listing from her:

Gerbils purchased from a pet store (depending on the store and state) can start at $2.99 and go up depending on where it is purchased. (Personally, I prefer Gerbils to Hamsters because of temperment on the Gerbils).

I think that they are normally in-expensive, but, be careful if you get one in Canada- you may lose it if you're a normal heterosexual person!!
