At around 10pm last night, i was waiting at a stoplight next to an SUV at an empty intersection. I was riding my gsxr 750. I was bored so I was making direct eye contact with the driver just to mess with him. Then I reached into my jacket, I just had to scratch an itch. Suddenly the guys eyes widened a little and he took off straight through the red light. I thought it was pretty funny. Do I look like a mobster? Or are people just afraid of bikes?

It's the old stereo type that all bikers belong to some motorcycle gang. This is because of movies that portray motorcyclist as thugs and gangsters. Don't feel bad, I belong to "Christian Motorcyclist Association" and we have rode up behide cars and they actually move off the road to let us pass. Usually older people, who were scared to see a group of motorcyclist riding on the road. Once 35 of us pulled into a outdoor icecreamery (like Brewsters) people waiting in line to place their orders actually got into their cars and left, others sitting at the picnic tables got up and went to their cars. In restaurants, we see people who look at us scared. After reading our colors "Christian Motorcyclist Association, Riding for the Son", the next responce is, "I didn't know there was a such a thing as a Christian Motorcycle Group. One of the things we do is go to visit different churches and explain what we do and you would be supprised how many people associated motorcyclists to gangs. Sometimes, I am tempted to give the "Tongue" as I ride by someone who looks intimidated, but I know it's not the "Christian thing to do." Imagine how they feel when we stop behind somebody broke down to see if the need assitance. Until they realize who we are they roll up windows and lock the doors. We are only there to help!

Wwell being a bikeer my self, I have to say yes. It seems that every since the late 60s when all the bikers movies came out, people hate bikers. It doesen't mater if you ride a harley or a moped. The biger the bike the bader you are proseved to be.
Groups like the hells angles and other bad *** gangs have made it bad for all of us.
Not everyone that rides a motorcycle is a bad ***, but when you make moves like you are reaching for something you may or not have it scares people.
You can be wearing a suit and have a breafcase but have a big belly and a beard you are proseaved as a bad ***.
Untill thy change the image of bikers we will be looked on as a bad ***

I dont think that bikers are scary, just the stereotypes about them are.

I was driving in my car next to a "Bad ***" biker type the other day, and his bike was a nice looking custom cruiser. I pulled up next to him at a red light and commented that he had a nice looking bike and gave him a thumbs up just before the light turned green.

At the next red light, he said thanks, and commented on my car.

He seemed like a nice fellow...

But as far as what you did, I can understandwhy they reacted the way they did, only because they dont know you and wouldnt know that you are reaching for an itch. All that they would see is someone staring at them at night and reaching into their jacket...

Honesty, use your brain, and think before you act, or you might get shot or ran over, or maybe they should have called the police and had u arrested...

Oh, wait, stupidity isn't a crime...

I don't know what kind of bike that is. Is is a "crotch rocket" or a Harley wannabe? I assume the first. Anyway, I think a lot of people are afraid of bikers, simply because of the reputation they have. Rest assured, not everyone is. I used to be, until I got to know some of them a few years ago.

I ride with a well known, large, multistate 1% outlaw motorcycle club. The difference between you and me is....well, I'm a biker and you are not. It sounds to me like you are looking for trouble or trying to prove to yourself that you've got a big johnson. I know what people who are backed into a corner, or made to fear for their lives, are capable of. I deal with this misdirected fear on an almost daily basis and, in most cases, try to defuse it with nonthreatening body language. Most definitely when I am alone, at night and on an empty road. You did nothing but perpetuate a stereotype that most REAL bikers get very tired of dealing with. Your lucky the dude didn't back up and run your *** over. I, and my kind, consider that type of aggressive eye contact to be, at the most, a threat and at least disrespectful enough to earn you a good ***** slap. I have a Club Brother that wears a t shirt on occasion that says on the front, "Go ahead and do something stupid, I need another felony conviction." That about sums that up. What I do know my friend, is that if you had played your little game with me, at the time and place that you did it, you would be picking your *** up off of the ground, wiping the little girl tears out of your eyes and visiting your dentist in the morning. Grow up dude. I've been to too many funerals of friends and Brothers that have been killed for less than you did. Just think of how your mother would feel if that dude had blown your *** off of that so called motorcycle you ride. Still think it's funny? If you do than you are a bigger douche bag than you sound like. Have a good day.

Most people are not afraid of sport bikers. Not unless they drive a yellow model and carry a ninja sword at least.
Some people are just plain afraid of everything.
Most Harley riders are also very nice people.
If you want to perform a test I would drive up on your sport bike and knock over one of the Hell's angels bikes and then say, "F-OFF your bike sux!" And see if he is scared. If so, then you truly have mastered the ability to terrify almost anyone.

Duh, the Bikers of the 60's have made it extremely hard for biker's today. If you wear leathers, or have tats and ride a bike, you are sterotyped as a BAD boy. I ride, and about 7 yrs ago. I hopped off the back of my ole man's bike at work, got stopped at the employee's entrance by a security guard, and was told I would have to go thru the visitor's entrance for security purposes. I had been working at the place for 5 years. I flashed my work badge and headed in the building, the security officer followed me all the way to my desk. So yeah we are branded "BAD TO THE BONE".

I think that dude watched too many movies! LOL dude that would have been funny as hell though! If it was an older person, well you know how older people can be and in general people sterotype. You would think that someone on a Harley would be more intimidating than a person on a sport bike.

no, I'm not afraid of bikers, maybe because I am a biker (not a streeter) I'm in the offroad world flying 60 feet through the air so I consider that a little more unnerving than looking at a biker.
