Why don't you try and make some friends from there? That's the best way you can learn how bogus all these ideas are.
And there's more than one coast, so why do you use the term "the coast?"

I live in South Dakota, so I am in the Midwest. I have also lived in Texas. People dressed the same in Texas as they do here in SD. People drove , no more or no less pickups there then they do anyplace else I've been. I do think people are a little more friendly in Texas and the Midwest then they are in NJ but I'm sure that you can find friendly people in NJ also.
Last of all, I didn't know and don't thinks its true that a lot of girls want a southern guy.
I do know that a lot of schools send out scouts to the Midwest colleges at the end of the school year, looking to recruit teachers for their states. They claim its because the Midwest has a reputation for hard work ethic's. I know this because our daughter is a teacher, she had a teaching job before school even got out. She got this job through a scout recruit and moved away to another state because the wages were so much better then being a teacher here.
I do know in Texas you can wear a gun and holister, its lawful, but I really very rarely seen anyone but a police officer with a gun and holister.

Okay, first of all, Texas is NOT in the midwest, it's in the southwest. And the misconceptions of the midwest--oh I could think of plenty! My mom is originally from Minnesota and her family (brothers, etc.) still live out there so i am very familiar with the midwest. Some of the stereotypes are rue to a certain extent, but they are not all narrow-minded and uneducated, they are not all stupid etc.

Texas lives in its own world. lol I say this because I have a girlfriend who moved from Michigan to Texas in the last two years, and she describes all the time how the culture there is SO different. She said they all call her YANKEE, and treat her like she's an alien! lol I've traveled all over the United States, and have definitely noticed, not only different accents, but little things, like men in the South absolutely did seem very gentlemen like, (opening doors, and saying "yes ma'am") all the way to California where they are very laid back and easygoing. You should take a trip cross-country, you'll see what I mean.
