Where was it stolen from? Do you know who could have stolen it? If you know these you might call the police though you probably wont be successful so i would probably say just invest in a new one. and be more cruel next time good luck

My brother's ipod was stolen, so I know what your going through. Its hard to find something stolen that everyone else seems to have too. Like Tom said, the newer ones have an option on them so that you can lock the ipods even if they are stolen. But if you had an older one each ipod has a serial number, as long as you know that number you can prove the ipod is yours. You can go to the police and file a report and include the serial number.
Otherwise just keep your eyes and ears open eventually someone will slip up. And usually when something is stolen like this the thief is close to you (hopefully not to close!) and or the person knows you. I hope you find it. :)

Well contact the Police Station and tell them it's not an Emergency but that you'd like to make out a police report about your stolen Ipod. They will send an officer down to take your statement and you can ask the officer what your options are in catching the person or persons who did this.

The only thing you can do is buy a new one unless you registered the SN.
Welcome to the real world of thieves.
Hopefully , you will be more vigilant and have fewer things stolen in the future.
Stealing is a way of life for many now.

If you have a fifth generation ipod and you put it on screen lock the thief wont be able to use it and maybe he/she will secretly return it unfortunately if it was not on screen lock there is not much you can do except hope that you misplaced it

Don't take your ipod to school because they will see you have it and get it.

Where was it stolen? If it was in class or something like that then you know it was a student. If it was just a stranger then you have no chance.
