For the most part, because sometimes people use it as birth control. "Oh, I won't use a condom, I'll just get the morning after pill"

I don't support it being over the counter, but I do support it being available by prescription. The morning after pill DOES NOT kill a baby if you're already pregnant. But if you are not pregnant, it will prevent you from becoming pregnant. Sometimes accidents do happen and so it's nice to have backup.

coz it has kind of a stigma of 'well you couldnt be bothered protecting yourself, oh well, no problem there is always the morning after pill'

Because it reeks of irresponsibility (whether or not that is a fair stereotype).
