Great country poor government. Chavez will take his country down with him. I'm surprised the people don't rise up against him.

And this was before Chevez...I was on a cruise through the lower Caribbean. We stopped at some port off the coast of Venezuela. We were warned by the staff not to go ashore unless we got on the bus waiting there. The ship staff told us it was the last time they were stopping in Venezuela because it was just too dangerous for their passengers to go ashore. Another passenger mentioned to us that he'd been to Caracas once on business and was mugged three times while he was there for two days.

I suppose Chevez will put a stop to this, but at what cost? I bet there's no criticizing him there.

It's a beautiful country and its people are so warm!! The bluest water and some of the coolest birds I have ever seen were in Venezuela

I say "Go Hugo Go!" ..and please God protect this nation and its leader from the forces of evil (aka President Bush Junior and his henchmen). Why is the awful dunce sabre rattling about Venezuela? He's got his hands full with Afghanistan, and Iraq AND he wants to take on Iran and North Korea too!!

If Americans can "protect American interests" surely it's fair that Venezuelans can protect Venezuelan interests.

its a MUCH larger threat then any1 realizes.. if Hugo Chavez continues at the rate he is currently at... America will be fighting a two front war, against all of latin america + south america on its southern border and the Middle East, Russia, East Asia, and Africa on its Northern border, that will make WW2 look like tea party.

When Castro dies, don't be suprised if Chavez seizes control of Cuba... and with his spreading "revolution" in Latin America, he will have brainwashed so many people into following him that he might as well seize control of Uruguay Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, etc..

Britain will be America's only ally south of its border, since we are working together to collectively create an "ethanol-alliance" type of thing that will severely impact America and America's national security and economic stability for the better.

And thats why there will be so much radical opposition and political resentment (Venezuala is one of the leading sources of oil in America; oil which Bush is trying to replace with ethanol with help of Brazil. In other words, Venezuala's main source of income, income that mainly is used to pay for military imports from Russia, will decline greatly because of Brazil) from Hugo Chavez that he won't lose any support from his supporters if he invades Brazil, as long as he paints them as the enemy and america-lovers.

Chavez has pledged, on national television, that he will give military and financial support to Iran and its allies, for anything they need, as long as its targeted against America.

Iran's President has also expressed, on national television during a speech, that he desires the destruction of the United States of America, as desired by Allah.

I support the efforts of Hugo Chavez to create a better nation.

He is providing assistance to the poor like housing, food, and direct aid. It's more than the previous leaders did.

chavez had some nice ideas. something had to be done, and he's done some good things.

but, he seems to be going the way of castro.

he's done a bit, but is no where near done with his attempts to fix his own country, and his focused has turned to a more global stage.

i hope my current doubts prove fruitless, and that he creates a strong, stable, positive country.

either way, i hope we don't mess with them for our own interests like we have a habit of doing in south america.

he seems to be focusing on cementing his power and improving his international position, after having done only half the job he set out to do.

that and crime has skyrocketed.

he should work on that, as well as focusing more on his local economy, improved education, and public infrastructures than trying to butt heads with america.

What bobaj said.
Of all the concerns in the world that I choose to pay attention to, Venezuala would be very near the bottom.
