It's also known as the star of morning and if you've ever seen it you would know it's beautiful. Like a certain roman goddess. Simple as that.

According to the database at my observatory ..

Venus whose Greek equivalent was Aphrodite was the Roman goddess of love and beauty. It got its name from being the brightest object , The planet is aptly named since it makes a beautiful sight in the sky, with only the Sun and the Moon being brighter.
At one time, it was thought to be two separate bodies: the morning star (Eosphorus) and the evening star (Hesperus). It is the second planet from the Sun and the sixth largest.
Hipparchos studied it and figured out it was the same star but figured out it was planet because it moved among the stars like the sun and moon !

Also it is amazing to see in the telescope & has phases just like our moon !

There is no Greek Venus, her Greek equivalent is Aphrodite. It was named for the Roman godess Venus because it was first observed and named by the Romans and they always honored their gods. They probably thought it was her sitting up in the heavens.
