Smaller number = n
Bigger number = n + 6

n + n + 6 = 72
2n = 66
n = 33

let x be the first number
and y be the second one

sum of the two numbers measn sum of x and y
say x is 6 less than y

x = y - 6
x + y = 72

y - 6 + y = 72
2y = 78
y = 39

x = 39-6=33

so smaller number is 33
hope this helps

x + (x-6) = 72

2x - 6 = 72

2x = 78

x = 39

your numbers are, therefore, 39 and 33.

you're welcome
