AMD is soon releasing a quad core CPU for the AM2 socket ....they are far from done ...

The Athlon 64 is a fine performer, however, it is best judged according to your specific needs.

A dual core CPU will work on the AM2 socket, & if you perform intensive tasks like video rendering or editing you will see a drastic increase in performance with an AMD dual core processor.

An AMD X2 4600+ is very affordable & as powerful as an Intel E6400 Core2Duo.

They're not done manufacturing processors for the AM2 socket. Especially when AM2 is fairly new.

Anyways, I'd suggest any dual processor on the AM2 socket that fits your budget.

They're getting pretty cheap now.

all processors at present will be sixty 4 and 32 bit nicely matched. i do recommend getting an Intel chip. if you're an straightforward homestead person and downloader bypass for an i3 in case you basically do a touch of gaming and video enhancing (video games do no longer comprise solitaire) bypass for an i5. in case you do HD video enhancing and many gaming bypass with an i7 and a pics card. bypass with AMD if you're strapped for money. the athlon II x3 processors at the prompt are not at a foul value for the decrease end so i'd say follow those on your undemanding and use the athlon II x4 instead of the i5 and the phenom II x4-x6 instead of the i7. intel's are a much more beneficial useful operating chip inspite of the actuality that so attempt to stay with easily a kind of. in case you may wait... the intel i? series line is popping out all quad center in the subsequent few months

AMD's AM2 processors are inferior when compared to Intel processors. I doubt more AM2 processors will come out, and if they do, it won't matter; Intel's processors are still much better.

That said, if you're stuck on AMD, wait for the new CPU architecture (Barcelona) and see if it's better than Intel's offerings.

Your money is much better spent on a Intel Core 2 Duo processor, especially if you overclock.

You mst be running games, right.

Duo core is by far the fastest I have ever seen. But a Pentium 4 will run just about everything.

Just look at the speed, they also crash easier at higher speeds.
Cause programs are not ready for all that speed.
