Good question! You got me curious ;-)
"Word History: Giving gifts to one's broker might be justifiable from an etymological point of view because the word broker may be connected through its Anglo-Norman source, brocour, abrocour, with Spanish alboroque, meaning "ceremony or ceremonial gift after the conclusion of a business deal." If this connection does exist, "business deal" is the notion shared by the Spanish and Anglo-Norman words because brocour referred to the middleman in transactions. The English word broker is first found in Middle English in 1355, several centuries before we find instances of its familiar compounds pawnbroker, first recorded in 1687, and stockbroker, first recorded in 1706."
So semi-relevant today because some brokers do give gifts after the "business deal" is finished. Interesting...

He brokers the stock deal between you and the seller. You tell him what stocks to buy and sell and he performs(brokers). I wouldn't let him invest it for you. Let a financial advisor(someone trained) give you the investing advice, not the stockbroker. Take care.

Funny...
BANKS should be called brokers because they charge you more than a brokerage firm when you invest your money.

It's because they make you just a little broker every time you use them.

Oh the irony!!! It isn't lost on me. Good point. I suppose they call them that for obvious reasons...
I'd predict that about 90% of them are broke themselves, and the other 10% only appear successful because all their client's have gone broke...
Or some such thing

Hey, if they actually knew anything about picking good stocks to invest in, they wouldn't be collecting commissions for trading other people's stocks.
