First things first your computer will need to be DVD compatible, then using itunes you should be able to copy the movie from the DVD while it is in the drive and copy into the itunes directory (list of songs and videos) then its pretty much the same as adding songs just upload it to ur ipod. Good Question.

NO you can not put dvds onto an iPod. The only way to get the videos are from itunes. If you try to use one ot those converters that say that they can change the format of dvds so that they will work on an ipod do not do it. The dvds are copy protected so if you try to change the format just so you can play them on your iPod you can get fined up to $250,000 because you violated the dvd's copyright.

Try the best software I have seen AVS Video Tools.
It can convert to/from all key format, upload video or DVD directly to key portables like iPod, Sony PSP, Archos, Zen Creative, and mobiles.
It can capture video from DV or webcams, TV tuners, DVB-T, DVB-S, transfer VHS tapes to DVD, remove commercials, edit video, copy and burn DVDs and video files: AVI (DivX, XviD, etc.), MP4, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG 1,2,4, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, ASF, H.263, H.264, RM, DVR-MS.
