kara yes. When I went to off to be a professional dancer (100 years ago), I lost close to 20 lbs and weighed about 106 lbs. I did not have a period for the entire time I was in New York. When I went home , I gained some of the weight back, and my period came back too.

Don't be irresponsible though, You may not be actively menstruating, but you are probably still ovulating, which means you can still get pregnant. Please use safe sex. I hope this helps.

If you're a serious dancer and only weigh 100 pounds, that is very likely the reason.
Athletes such as gymnasts, dancers, tennis players, etc. that need to be lean tend to have delayed or almost-nonexistence periods.
Nothing to worry about, as long as you're healthy. If and when you stop dancing seriously and put on a few pounds to get to a more "normal" weight it will show up.
Basically your body knows you don't have the fat and metabolic resources to carry a baby, so it prevents you from ovulating (and that's what triggers periods) so you don't get pregnant - its an evolutionary survival mechanism.

Odd as it may seem people who are athletic and stick to a regimen of high activity you are not alone. When my daughter was a competitive swimmer 7 months out of the year from age 6 - 19 after puberty she went months with out her period. She weighed 138 lbs.@ 5' 11 1/2" tall. The other 5 months she played fast pitch softball on a local team and High school in the spring. June - Aug. club travel team.

In College while training for softball, lifting weights, machine training, and running the rest of the day week in week out she was loosing weight. My wife an (RN) recognized something was terribly wrong. She was anorexic. Luckily quick correct action helped her. After two months in a what she called: (fat camp) and a psychologist, psychiatrist, family counselor, nutritionist she's doing well! A while later it was discovered she had a serious Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Every thing had to be perfect every minute of every day. She was never satisfied with a B on a graded test. When she graduated with a 4 yr. degree in nursing third in her class was not acceptable.
Ironic as it may seam our family counselor had a daughter who was also seriously anorexic. The poor girl died while was doing his best to help our daughter. Good luck to you!

You've gotta give us a little more information. For starters, how old are you and how tall are you. If you're only 15 years old and 5'3 then you're perfectly fine and nature will come when its ready.

But if you're like 5'8 and 20. Then chances are you've got amenoreha and that would be the loss of your period because you're underweight. See a doctor if that second scenario applies to you

A woman's body needs a certain amount of stored fat to produce the hormones required for her reproduction cycle. Yes, if you have an absent amount of body fat your period will stop. Maybe you should see a dietitian.

it could definitely be that. you need a certain standard amount of body fat to have it ome regularly, and unfortunately dancers, and track runners who are very slim and lean sometimes have probs with missing their periods or losing them. its not like its lost forever though. see your doctor abot getting u on the pill maybe.

If u just lost alot of weight (depending on what your normal body weight should be) then the weight loss could be the casue of it. Or sometimes extra physical activity could make it less frequent
