A person with a name very close to Alfred Wegener, the man who proposed continental drift.

There is an Alfred Wenger who wrote "Vibrating Fluid Densimeters: A Solution to the Viscosity Problem" in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation, vol. IECI-27, No. 3, pp. 247-253. I doubt that is who you are talking about though.

Alfred Wegener's theory was "Continental Drift". Plate tectonics came along many years later after seafloor spreading was discovered.

Wegener felt that there were several types of evidence which showed that the continents had been together at one time.
(Matching outline shapes, matching fossils, matching rock types and mountain ranges)

Scientists of Wegener's time did not accept his ideas because they couldn't believe that it was possible for continents to move.
