meiosis is kind of similar to mitosis, but longer, an a lil different. Meiosis first is with gamete(sex cells), while mitosis is with body cells. In meiosis the go through prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase, etc, but then have two cells, which go under division again, but this time with the genetic material exchanges the four daughter cells are unlike the parent cells. I hope this helps

think of a cell that only has 4 chromosomes (two sets of the homologues-the same chromosome, but you got one from mom and one from dad). it's gotta be a cell that's going to divide into either an egg or sperm, since that's what meiosis does. so, the first time the cell divides, it will put the chromosomes that are the same as each other next to each other, so that when the cell divides, you'll have two new cells, and each one will have only two chromosomes, in each one, each chromosome will be either the one you got from your mom, or the one you got from your dad. then, just think of one of the two new cells. it will line up it's two chromosomes end to end, NOT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, along the center, so that when the cell divides this time, the chromosome gets split in half essentially, and half goes to one new cell and half to the other (it's ok to only have half because each half is just an identical version of the other). this is basically the same as mitosis, but now you have 4 new cells, since this last step happens with both the new cells you created in the first step. if this is in a female, each time the divisions occur, one of the cells will get most of the material from the original cell, and the other 3 will die, so that one can be fully developed and ready to be fertilized. in males, all 4 will be fully functional.

It's ok to 'freak' a little if you're pullin' down a '90'.
That means that if you 'bomb' it's only gonna be a 75-80 - what a 'bummer'!
LOL --- You'll do just fine - crack the books some more. You may even want to speak with your teacher(tell you why)!! - He(she) (they) are lookin' good 'cause you're doin' '90'. good luck young lady. You're lucky - what some kids wouldn't do to be in your predicament.
'kc' - - - for petie's sake, don't beg!! You're on Y!A to help if you can.The points shouldn't mean anything. We can all gain from this thing if it's used right.! I go out of my way to look for involved questions or ones that require an explanation. Sometimes you gotta take a 'cheapie', but don't 'troll'(I don't mean u - u answered in detail to this one - good for u).For good luck, I gave you a 'thumbs down'. You'll recover.

Meiosis takes place in the sex organs so that when the cells split, the new cells are not identical as in Mitosis. In fact, one cell has half. the chromosomes and the other cell has the other half.

Chromosomes in a diploid cell regenerate, producing four haploid daughter cells. It is this step in meimosis that generated genetic diversities.
Hope it helped...........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiosis
best page I have seen.
Learn the Phases and you will do good
Pro Meta Ana Telo
are the phases I think of "Paul made a taco" to memorize the first words
Prophase is when the chromosomes approximately line up with each other into homologous chromosomes, the two chromatids become "zipped" together, and then the nuclear membrane disintegrates into vesicles, and the mitotic spindle begins to form.
Metaphase is when homologous pairs line up together.
Anaphase is when the cell elongates in preparation for division down the middle after the homologous chromosomes are pulled apart.
Telophase is when every thing wraps up
********SO basically its 1 cell dividing into 2***********
