Almost anyone can get "addicted" to almost any pain medication, particularly narcotics. What is most important is how they handle that addiction. An addiction, in itself, is not inherently a bad thing, but usually carries a negative emotive overtone. I am on long term narcotic therapy for chronic pain, and although my body is "addicted", that addiction does not control my life. The problem comes from people abusing the drug, and altering their basic nature/lifestyle/actions to attain more and more of the drug, particularly in an illegal or harmful manner to themselves and/or family.
If used correctly, any medicine is very helpful in that it allows the taker to function in their (relatively) normal fashion. In my case, I am able to do some of the work and hobbies that I otherwise would not be able to do due to the severe pain associated with my medical problem. The obtaining and constant taking of the medication does not dominate my life or force me to do ilegal or hurtful things, it is just part of living. It would become a problem if I were fixated on the morphine, if I lied, stole or bought it illegally or if it became a problem by hindering me from having a "normal" life.

Anyone at anytime and with any problems, or no problems, can get addicted to morphine. It is highly addictive and can kill a person if too much is taken at one time. Morphine should only be administered by a doctor. It's a very hard addiction to quit, also.

There have been studies that show as long as the patient has REAL pain that needs morphine for control, they will not get addicted. However, when the pain becomes easier to control, but the doctor does not progress you to lesser drugs, the potential for addiction starts to rise.

Most defiantly morphine is similar to heroin in many respects and they are both made from the opium plant. Even the synthetic pain killers are highly addictive.
It is very common for people to become addicted to pain killers I know of 4 people from different parts of my life that have been or still are addicted they often need to go to counseling and get methadone treatments to get off the stuff.

yes you can. morphine is very addictive, and it doesn't matter what the reason is that your taking it. you system becomes dependent on taking it and soon can't function with out. you can become addicted to any prescription or otc for that matter. be wise in your choices and know when enough is enough.

That was a stupid question. You just wasted 5 pts to ask if you lost an arm would you be addicted to prescribed meds. H3LL Yeah.

Just b/c you are missing an arm doesn't mean the rest of the body is gone.
