Hello,
I am considering purchasing a diesel VW. I would like to have the VW converted to a biodiesel vehicle. I have a biodiesel co-op where I live, and they will convert diesel vehicles to biodiesel. I am aware of cost of a diesel vehicle, the cost of converting to biodiesel, the environmental benifits, the cost of the fuel, that I can run off restaurant grease, and that my exhaust may smell like a french fry. Here are my questions:
Do you have easy access to biodiesel at gas stations in your state or province? (I know nothing about biodiesel access in any place other than Wisconsin) Have you had any unusual problems with your biodiesel vehicle? What brand of diesel car (sedans or wagons only, please) would you recommend most? (I am open to brands besides VW, but would like a used car under $20,000) Can you still put regular diesel in a biodiesel car? How many miles/gallon do you get with biodiesel? What are the pros/cons of your biodiesel vehicle?
Thanks everyone!

Do to the increased number of hydrocarbons, biodiesel is heavier. You run into a problem in the winter (if you live where it gets really cold) when it gets really really cold. The cold causes the biodiesel to kinda jell up. Thats all i know about it.

I drive a Diesel truck and have been for a long time.Only its a big rig, but if it was me I would buy a diesel powered vehicle. Maybe not one that is bio but they are selling diesel made from corn at certain stores, you'd have to do a little research of the whereabouts. BUT, Willie Nelson is promoting Bio-Diesel. He actually owns a truck stop south of Dallas and will sell the product there. FYI, on latest concert tour his tour bus RAN off of bio-diesel. I personally don't think it will catch on because of the positive outcome they have had with diesel made from corn and sugar. Also diesel engines take alot more stress and seem to last longer than gas powered. But they are alot heavier too. More weight to haul!

you are smoking crack, my friend, the VWs turbos and fuel injection pumps crap out about two minutes after your warranty expires.
There is no easy access to biodeisel, the big oil companies have seen to that.
There is no such thing as a used deisel under twenty grand that will be converted to bio without huge cost then be unreliable because it is old.
Get a bike.
