Are they usually depressed during the holidays because they hate them?

Holidays are suppose to be about celebrations with your family. Some people have no families; some people have lost their partner or member of their family; or most likely, people have a dysfunctional family or a downright awful family and people keep going back to their families hoping it will be different "this time", even though family members are drinking, drugging, battering, cruel, or violent. It's bad enough to deal with this stuff in general, but it's totally depressing to deal with it on a holiday that is suppose to be festive....

The majority of people in the world love holidays.

It is the people who do not understand the holidays that ususally hate them.

Holidays are important for reflection and contemplation.
When you understand the holiday, and are living in obediance to God's will, nothing but joy will be in your heart especially during the holidays.

Christian holidays, like Christmas let you know that God came into the world (Jesus was born)which is good news.

God is watching over you at all times, that is good news.
Jesus conquored the grave and rose, that is good news it is called Easter.
Jesus died for your sins on the cross, which is Good Friday. That is good news.

Jesus paid the penalty for your sin. That is good news.

God loves you just as you are, thats good news, and after God saw what he had made he said "Very Good", God does not make junk he makes masterpieces that's you and me.Thats good news.

Death is not the final answer because Jesus rose from the dead. That is good news.

Heaven is a real place waiting for all who put their trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. That is good news.

Those who hate the holidays are individuals who either do not understand the reason for the season, or are living outside the will of God. Repentance(Stop sinning) and contrition(Being sad you sined against God) are the only remedy for hating the holidays and living joyfully every day of your life.
There is to much good news to dwel on that you do not have time to hate because you have to tell others of the good news all the time.

You have hope, peace with God, and eternal life because of what Jesus did for you.
Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life."

He always keeps his word and his promises.

People will let you down but God never will, he loves you to much.

People usually hate the holidays because of their life situation or family issues. Sometimes it's hard to be happy for others when you are down in the dumps.

Because my mother was a drunk/whore/smoker/ only wanted to be with married men. I was crammed in an orphanage when I was 2. My father had a nervous breakdown because of her, while he was in the hospital, his own brother stole everything he had, even took his house...I had 11 aunts and uncles, I was shipped off to a lot of dif foster homes, never meeting any of my family. I was married, no kids, divorced. I isolate myself because that was all I knew. I remarried, husband has 4 kids, I am the stepmother, they treat me like crap...just for that reason, a stepmother. I cook, babysit, the whole nine yards for them, took care of my husband mother, did any of his family members do this NO...me, the sucker. I don't hate the holidays, I despise them. I would like to find other people that do not have family, share those days with them, but because I am married, I am expected to suck up to them....then my husband wonders why I am in the moods I get in to around the holidays, being a man, he doesn't get it. Now Christmas is coming up, piss on it. Thank you for listening to me *****....

This is a touchy subject for a lot of people. The holidays bring back a lot of memories and for some they bring a lot of sadness for loved ones lost. Christmas was always my favorite - until my mother died - now the only one I hate more is Mother's Day. I've gotten better, but I still miss her so much on those days because they were so special for us.

Some peeps need the structure of working to keep them happy. However much they may dislike the idea of work, they are none-the-less comfortable with the routine. Holidays are without structure, unless pre-planned, and force peeps to think about what they should do. And NO more excuse not to clean that closet!

Same reason some peeps die soon after retirement.
