Go to the pharmacy and buy them.

You can buy them over the counter. Prescription prenatals are no better than those sold in stores. At 9 weeks you should definitely be on a prenatal with at least 800mg of folic acid to prevent spinal bifida. I would go and get some store brand vitamins right away and specifically ask your Dr at your next visit if you'd still rather have a prescription.

Also in the US Drs rarely "give" you anything, unless they have samples left from a pharmaceutical rep. They may give you a prescription to go get filled and pay for but you won't get free vitamins for the remainder of your pregnancy.

The folic acid in prenatal vitamins is very important in the early development of the baby. Many women in the United States take prenatal vitamins as soon as they start trying to have a baby. Your doctor should prescribe them ASAP.

You are not always prescribed vitamins... i buy my own from the drug store which are just as fine. unless you have specific needs that your doctor can pinpoint, the over the counter ones are fine.

I actually was taking them before i became pregnant. It helped a lot when we did conceive because my body was not lacking the essentials that i needed.

I would call your doctor to double check about getting vitamins to make sure that over the counter ones would be fine.

congrats on your pregnancy!

It's really important to take them starting even before your missed period to help prevent spina bifida. After that, you should be taking them to help with organ development and growth of your baby. It's not too late to start taking them and starting now is better than not taking them at all. Doctors don't always precribe them, but you can buy them over the counter.

Here in Canada they dont give them to us, we have to go buy them from the drugstore. For all 3 of my pregnancies the doctors have told me to start taking them right away. Good luck with the new little one!

I was never prescribed prenatal vitamins I was just told that I should start taking them.
Go to your local pharmacist and ask for where they keep them at the grocery store.

you can buy them yourself at any drugstore, you dont need to get them prescribed! I took mine from the very beginning. You can call your doctor and ask if you should if you are too worried, but they probibly will just tell you to get over the counter stuff. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS
