I just realized that I categorized this in government. I guess it doesn't hurt the question too much though. I've learned my lesson about paying attention. Sorry.

Religion provides the direction in most people's lives. It may be the wrong direction, but at least people aren't wandering through life aimlessly. I think it also helps us from growing too fast to control. It's like we're children testing our limits and religion keeps us from jumping over the edge until we are ready.

I have said for years that religion is more harm than good.
I just do not understand how anyone with any mind at all can believe such nonsense that most religions profess.

Religions teach by fear religions teach hate. If you do not believe this then you need to stop and think about just how religion is taught to the young. Most parents teach their children by fear around the world because of it.

Hate definitely is taught and if you are not of the faith then you are of much lesser value. Even for some to be eliminated.

Look around you at all the different churches and the conflicts of the members of these churches. Many times within the churc is great conflict.

No there truly is not very much good that has come from any religion.

I think it's helpful because some people need to have a religion in order to not do wrong and not hurt other people. It's like a brainwashing tool with fun little stories involved so that people have a "reason" to be good civilized people.

Considering that most of the wars throughout history have been over religion, I think it is destructive the way it is practiced.

Religion or belief is a personal matter. I have no problem if you worship god, allah, buddha or trees but you should confine your worship to your home, church or temple and not try to foist your beliefs on others or condemn one who doesn't believe in your particular diety.

That's what causes wars......

hurting.

they're dogmatic, contentious, self serving concentrations of power, that care more about protecting what they've got, their position and influence, than helping people with any sort of spiritual growth or enlightenment. just like in government, those with power, are typically those who should have the least.

their charitable acts are negligible to their less noble sides, especially considering that the charity usually comes with a price tag of accepting whatever's being preached.

Hurting. Its not religion itself but many of its followers that give most religions a badname.
Religious faith and practice are not required to lead a moral life.
