I just bought a brand new computer with plenty of memory and dual core processors, but it runs slower than my old XP in getting to a web site! What gives? Is this why everyone complains about Vista?

If you have website phishing filter on this can slow loading of pages down in XP or Vista. I also read about problem/conflict between Norton IS and Sonic DLA if it is installed on your system. But I do not know fix for Sonic DLA,but I still run Norton, even with my new laptop with 2GB ram and large HD,every thing from start up to web pages seem to load slower than on my older lap top with Windows XP and only 512 ram.

I don't have any problems like that with vista. however, there are a few things you should check on a new laptop.
1. battery setting - it runs slower if it is not plugged in and you can change that setting by right clicking the icon...
2. new computers ofter come bogged down with useless junk: games, aol, messengers, annoying gadgets..... did you uninstall those yet?
3. dual core is not about memory. Vista runs best on 1gig of memory but most come with 512mb (even the dual core processors).

If your using wireless internet, try connecting it directly to the cable modem or router. If the internet is really fast after connecting, than there is something wrong with your wireless card. I had an issue like that and i exchanged the laptop and it works great now.

I noticed the phishing filter slowing browsing down. It checks every site you go to vs. a list on microsoft's site. You can turn it off in the options.

I've got Vista on all my computers, I don't have problems.

Things like this have cropped up before and they have always been attributed to human error. (HAL 9000; from 2001).

if your on the internet alot you may already have a virus..run your virus check and when thats done..go ahead and defrag your computer. You may have taken on a program that is running on your computer that you are not useing at all.

perhaps it must be the startup classes that initiate whilst your laptop does. attempt going to start then run and style in msconfig and then click the container the place it says initiate. those are all the classes that initiate once you turn on your laptop. in case you notice some which you dont use or dont choose unlick them and that they wont startup each and every time you turn your laptop on.
