definitely yes. being shy is not reflective of your sense of self and has more to do with how you interact with other people. a loud person is not necessarily confident at all in fact a alot of people compensate for their insecurities with humour. i find the most confident people are the "people watchers" those who are happy to just be because they don't judge themselves or their worth on how entertaining or popular they are to others.

I remember I was much shyer in kindergarten then now (But i'm still a little shy around people I don't konw). I'm confident of myself, who cares if you're "shy", it's about the personality!! wow, I just realized i'm a lot like that. i'm VERY open and outgoing around my friends, but whe it comes to strangers, i'm like totally silent the whole time.
So you're answer is yes, take it from a fellow shy gal. We can be confident too! Your friend is wrong, though some shy people are not confident. Shyness has nothing to do with it, just like you said!!

I am a confident and shy person. The two characteristics are completely different. I used to lack confidence and was painfully shy growing up. Now I am confident, but still reserved or shy. You are right, people do tend to think that the two are synonymous.

yes. I think you can be confident enuff to overcome your shyness, it just takes a little being crazy, but not too crazy.
what i am trying to say is the more you try not to be shy the more confident you get, and the good thing is that it happens gradually and when you realize it you have overcome all aspects of being shy. 2 good things will be the outcome, 1 no more shyness and 2 confidence thru the roof.
I speak from my own personal experience.
good luck!

I am the same way. And I know I'm gonna need to be confident to preform music in front of an audience. So, yes. I may not have much confidence now. But, I am working on it.

well i am a lot like you i am shy but when i am with my friends or people that i know really well i am really loud and annoying. shy people can be confident, like a shy person can have confidence to climb up really high places or something like that and i also think that it depends on the person

I am in opinion a shy person may be a little more cautious in getting involved in some things. This wouldn't to me mean you are less of a person, just a little more cautious.
