Some cells remain in interphase when they have differentiated into mesophyll or cortex or epidermis, ...

However, cells in the meristematic regions, like the root tips, progress through the cell cycle.

I was a long time bachelor. Now I am a father of two. They are eleven year old twins. There is life after marriage and life after children. Nothing changes your perspective on life like being a parent. Being a parent is not for everyone. I am glad we live in a society where people don't feel obligated to be parents. Like his father, my father didn't want children. It was easy to tell as I grew older. I would not trade in all the vacations or cruise ships I could have taken if it were not for parenthood. Being a parent is a sort of immortality. I can see life through the eyes of a child again.
